Lynden First Reformed Church

Who we are and what we believe:

Who we are:

First Reformed was established as a church in 1910. God has blessed us with over 97 years of wonderful ministry here in the Lynden area. FRC believes in the value of education, and offers a wide variety of education opportunities for believers, at all stages of their faith journey. So, whether you are interested in learning more about Christianity, a brand new believer, or a mature Christian, there is a place at FRC for you to fit in and grow in your faith!

Our slogan is:

To know Christ and to make Him known!

Our mission statement is:

First Reformed is called to strengthen families and individuals in the community and in our congregation, by offering Spirit-filled worship and life-transforming growth experiences, as well as empowering people to be fruitful and fulfilled, as they do purpose driven ministry. Together, our aim is to become more fully devoted followers of Christ.

Our core values:

  • 1. Worship: We believe that everything was created to glorify and magnify God.       • Psalm 34:1-3
          • Psalm 119:174

  • 2. Prayer: We were created to communicate with God through both talking with Him, and listening to Him.
          • 1 Thessalonians 5:17
          • 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12

  • 3. Living by the authority of Scripture: We understand the foundational importance of God’s Word, as a foundational and absolute truth in believers’ lives.
          • 1 Timothy 4:16
          • 2 Timothy 3:16,17

  • 4. Maturity/Growth: Our spiritual growth can never plateau, but we must commit to continually learning and growing in knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
          • 2 Peter 3:18
          • Colossians 2:6,7

  • 5. Ministry involvement: The church is not a place for spectators, but Scriptures call every believer to be involved in the ministry of the church.
          • Colossians 3:23-24

  • 6. Evangelism: Believers must recognize their lives are meant to be a light in a world of darkness. Evangelism happens both through the words Christians say, and the lives Christians live.
          • 1 Peter 3:15

  • 7. Small Groups: Although small groups have many different purposes and varieties (support, Bible Study, prayer), every small group has three components: Looking up (Worship), Looking in (at God’s Word) and Looking out (ministry, evangelism, prayer)

  • 8. Stewardship/Progressive Commitment: A steward is one who uses his God given resources for God given purposes. These resources are our time, talents, and treasures (tithe).

  • 9. Freedom and Authenticity: Tradition can entrap a church, and our desire is not to become locked into tradition if that tradition is not serving the purposes of our church. In all things we do, we are authentic, real people, who seek to genuinely honor God.

  •       • 1 Corinthians 9:22

  • 10. Missions: We have a rich heritage of being a missional church. We focus upon supporting local, national, and international missions, both financially and through commissioning missionaries to each of these regions. Missions is the heartbeat of our church, the life-giving force that continually propels us into a kingdom expanding ministry, both here at home, and to the ends of the earth.

What we believe:

  • We believe in one God, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the Creator of, and ruler of the universe. God, our perfect heavenly Father, loves and cares for all of us.
          • Deuteronomy 6:4, Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:31, Colossians 1:16-18

  • We believe that we have sinned. We have deliberately chosen not to follow God’s will, thereby breaking our relationship with God.
          • Romans 3:23

  • We believe that God, by grace alone, provides a relationship with Himself through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus is Savior to all who believe in Him
          • Romans 5:8-11, I Peter 3:18, John 3:16

  • We believe that God sent us the Holy Spirit to empower us to live more like Jesus Christ.
          • Romans 5:5

  • We believe that as children of God, we are promised eternal life with God in heaven.
          • John 14:1-3

  • We believe that the church is the spiritual body of believers in Christ, who are here to do the will of God.
          • Ephesians 5:25, I Corinthians 1:2

  • We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired word, written to reveal God to humanity. It is our ultimate authority for our faith and life.
          • 2 Timothy 3:16
