| So what does being a greeter entail? Here is a list that tells the details:
- You will be scheduled in the nursery when you are the greeter-just as it is now.
- Arrive by 10:30 a.m. Be sure that all the half-doors are closed and the sign in sheet and pen are on the shelf outside the nursery door.
- As volunteers arrive, have them remove their shoes and wash their hands or use the disinfectant gel. Have them stay in the nursery so children can be easily handed over to them.
- Take the children from the parents, ensuring that the nametag is on the back of the child and that the child is signed in on the correct nursery attendance form.
- Ensure the child is not sick. If any of the following is present, inform the parent that the child appears sick and is not allowed in the nursery until symptoms have resolved:
- Diarrhea or vomiting
- Fever within the last 24 hours
- Congested cough
- Thick, colored nose or throat discharge
- Puffy, pink, or infected eyes
- Rashes (other than diaper or teething)
- Place the child in the correct nursery:
- Little Lamb Nursery-birth until walking
- Little Critter Nursery-walkers through age 2
- Check in one child at a time.
- If you notice new families who don’t have “official” nametags and they are becoming regular attendees, offer them the nursery information sheet and a sign up form. Completed forms can be placed below the paging key pad in the nursery entry.
- Be in tune as to when to page the parents if their child is crying (five minutes).
- Initiate nursery volunteers to wipe down toy handles, frequently touched surfaces- tables, chairs, and door knobs with the Clorox wipes, and pick up toys during the last ten to fifteen minutes.
- Only release children back to the parent. NOT to siblings. NOT to any person you don’t know!!
- File the attendance sheet in the drawer in the entryway.
- Spray down the nursery with Lysol spray.
The greeter’s role may sound complicated, but we need volunteers that have a passion to keep our nursery a safe and caring place for God’s little ones.
