Volunteer Job Description

Listed below are the responsibilities for our First Reformed Church nursery.  The official policy and procedure information is located in the nursery.  Please read it if you want further information.

  1. Volunteer schedules are made in advance.  The volunteer calendar schedule is in the First Call each month.  If the day does not work for you, call and trade with someone else on the list.  Adult and student volunteers are expected to be in the nursery when assigned and to find their own substitute if needed.

  2. The greeter is noted in the schedule as (G).  This person needs to be in the nursery 15 minutes early and make sure all nursery responsibilities are abided by all volunteers and parents.

  3. Ensure children are correctly checked in and the greeter will place them in the correct nursery.  *If you are a greeter, please read the policy, as the well-child policy and other information is needed in your role.

  4. Remove shoes and wash hands or use disinfectant gel when entering the nursery.  Shoe covers or socks are available, if needed.

  5. Play with and care for the children during nursery time.

  6. If the child cries five minutes and the parent is needed, use the key pad to page the parent to the nursery.

  7. Change diapers using gloves.  Dispose of dirty diapers in the middle bathroom as to not smell up the nursery.  If you don’t feel comfortable changing diapers, page the parent.

  8. During the last 15 minutes of nursery, put the toys away and wipe down toy handles, chairs, and tables with Clorox wipes.

  9. Assist greeter with finding correct child and their belongings to return to the parent.

  10. Leave the nursery safe and clean for the next time!

We hope this helps everyone know how to care for our precious little ones.  You are very much appreciated by parents who can learn, grow and worship without busy, little ones squirming all around.
