Our Core Values
Worship
Worship is the foundational core value at FRC. We understand that everything that was made, was made to glorify God. God made us to be worshiping, responding, seeking creatures with a deep need of continual response to God. It is for our good that we can worship, for God promises that He will be found when we seek Him with our whole hearts.
- Psalm 34:1-3; Psalm 119:174
Prayer
We were created to communicate with God through both talking with Him,and listening to Him. In prayer, we are reminded that we cannot do things on our own strength, but need the power of the Holy Spirit. In prayer, especially in praying the words of Scripture, we have an encounter with the living God of all history. Prayer is also a form of worship – an encounter and relationship with God.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17, 5:25; 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12; 1 Peter 3:7
Living by the authority of Scripture
We understand the foundational importance of God’s Word. It is a foundation; it is an absolute; it is truth. It speaks to us as relevantly today as it did when it was first written to, and read by, God’s people thousands of years ago. We strive to make the Word applicable to our everyday lives by seeking, as we read, to answer the five questions: Who? When? Where? What? How?
- 1 Timothy 4:16; 2 Timothy 3:16,17; Hebrews 4:12
Maturity/Growth
We understand that we cannot live as babies all our lives. We encourage people to take the first step in submitting their lives to Christ, and in joining FRC – joining the others that have said “yes” to Christ. Then folks move to 2nd base (spiritual development), 3rd base (learning all about their spiritual giftedness), and 4th base (doing ministry). Our desire is that we all do 2 Peter 3:18 – But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.; and Colossians 2:6-7 - … continue to live in Him….
Ministry Involvement
At FRC, there are no spectators; no unemployment – all people, men, women, old, young, will serve because they have a gift given by the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 4:10), and because of their own uniqueness. As each does ministry, they’ll be fruitful, and will have a great sense of fulfillment. God has called us to be an army, and we can only be that as we are on the same team, each doing what they’ve been called and gifted to do to strengthen the body of Christ and to affect our community positively for Christ.
- Colossians 3:23-24
Evangelism
This is a two-pronged item. On one hand, we do evangelism by living a life so that those around us are attracted to Jesus Christ, the Light of the world. But only living this life, and not talking about Jesus, is like watching TV with the sound turned off. We must also do what 1 Peter 3:15 says (talking about Jesus). We will be people of word and deed!
Small Groups
Although small groups have many different purposes and varieties (support, Bible Study, prayer), every small group has three components: looking up (worship), looking in (at God’s Word), and looking out (ministry, evangelism, prayer).
Stewardship/Progressive Commitment
A steward is one who uses his God given resources for God given purposes. These resources are our time, talents, and treasures (tithe). The purpose? -- Blessed to be a blessing! We continually raise our personal commitment to God and His Kingdom’s work.
Freedom and Authenticity
Tradition can entrap a church, and our desire is not to become locked into tradition if that tradition is not serving the purposes of our church. In all things we do, we are authentic, real people, who seek to genuinely honor God. We have freedom in our worship services and look for people to participate. We encourage people to explore ministry; we give the freedom to fail since we know that failures can bring about triumphs and victories.
- 1 Corinthians 9:22
Missions
We have a rich heritage of being a missional church. We focus on supporting local, national, and international missions, through finances, commissioning missionaries to each of these regions, and by participating in short term mission / work teams. Missions is the heartbeat of FRC, the life-giving force that continually propels us into a kingdom expanding ministry, both here at home, and to the ends of the earth. Missions is giving a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name to all who have need; it’s giving one Saturday a month to meet a need; it’s trading in one week of vacation to do one week on a service project; it’s doing random acts of kindness in our community. Mission is not “retiring” but “redirecting” our lives and giving time, talents, and treasures to worthwhile causes. And missions is a passion that is in your heart – and if FRC doesn’t have a “program” for it, you step forward and seek the blessing of this congregation to enter into this new area of ministry!
